Eleanna Santorinaiou
() DirectorEleanna Santorinaeiou is a film and theater writer - director who lives
between London and Athens. She completed her undergraduate studies in
the Department of Methodology, History, and Theory of Sciences at the
University of Athens and then attended the London Film Academy. In
2023, she was selected from hundreds of applicants to attend the
prestigious National Film and Television School in London, UK for the
course in Directing Commercials.
In her work, she focuses on human relationships, particularly the concept
of family – both the ones we have and the ones we create – and childhood.
Since 2012, she has been directing short films that centre around young
individuals searching for their sense of belonging. She has directed five
short films, as well as promos and music videos. Her screenplays have
participated in festivals, including Sundance Screenwriters Lab 2015
(semi-finals), Screencraft 2018 (quarter-finals), and the Ministry of Culture
Covid-19 Special Short Film Program (15th out of 65). She has also taken
part in the RIFF Talents Lab & Cannes Series Writers Club.
In January-February 2020, she participated in the new film "Bleat",
directed by Yorgos Lanthimos for the Greek National Opera, starring
Emma Stone and Damian Bonnard. She worked as the 3rd Assistant
Director and assistant to Ms. Stone.
In June 2020-2021, she collaborated with the Stegi - Onassis Foundation
and Fani Kostourou on the project "Akous tin Athina," where they created
a 24-hour sound landscape from recordings of Athens' balconies.
During the summer of '21, Eleanna wrote and directed a radio play inspired
by the soundscape. In theatre, she began directing in Athens in 2008,
creating works for very young children (2.5 - 5.5 years old) with themes
relevant to the young audience, such as the arrival of a second child,
diversity, and fear of the dark. Fournos Theatre is her permanent
collaborator. Her first play, "Apples, Sugar, Cinnamon," has been running
for 15 consecutive years, a notable achievement for the Athenian theatre
scene. Currently, Eleanna is adapting it into a digital game, serving as
director, screenwriter, and producer in collaboration with a remarkable
team. So far, she has directed five children's plays, some of which have
been presented in London at the invitation of the Hellenic Centre.
