STRAGALINOS KONSTANTINOS

() DIRECTOR

Konstantinos Stragalinos is a film director, screenwriter and producer with an internationally awarded body of work. His artistic voice blends dystopian and surreal elements with sharp political sensitivity.

He graduated from the Law School of Athens and studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts. He holds an MA in Directing, Screenwriting and Producing from the Northern Media School (UK, 2011), on a full scholarship from the State Scholarship Foundation (I.K.Y.).

He wrote, directed and co-produced the multi-award-winning feature film The Big Father (2023). He has also created several award-winning short films (De Architectura, Check In, Invidia, Sto Kentro, among others).

His cinematic style balances psychological depth with piercing social critique. As critic Ninos Mikelides notes, Stragalinos' approach reveals “irony, black humour, a Buñuelian tone and a Cassavetes-like gaze,” highlighting a director of “honesty, directness, inventiveness, drive and passion.” Alexis Dermentzoglou describes his work as having a “surreal, underground dimension and a nightmarish futuristic vision reminiscent of Marco Ferreri,” while Dimitris Panagopoulos speaks of an artist with “the ability to blend multiple genres—black comedy, drama, psychological thriller—into a dystopian cinematic universe” with universal appeal.

The Big Father had its world premiere in Los Angeles at the Culver City Film Festival, where it was nominated for Best Feature Film. It was also officially selected at the 36th Panorama of European Cinema (International Competition), with nominations for the FIPRESCI and Best Film awards.

The film’s international journey includes Best Film awards in Nevada, Stockholm, Singapore and Bhutan, and special mentions in Hong Kong and Israel. It also received nominations in Ariano, San Francisco, Venezuela, Santa Cruz and Ecuador.

The film garnered critical acclaim. Yannis Krousinsky listed it among the three best Greek films of 2024, noting its successful shift “from realistic comedy to psychological thriller, and from social drama to fictional mystery.” Angelos Polydoros described it as "a harsh satire," while Stratos Kersanidis praised its "dynamic direction, pace and boldness." Efimerida ton Syntakton called it “a highly promising feature debut from Greece.”

His short films received numerous nominations and awards, and were screened at dozens of festivals (Drama, Thessaloniki, Cyprus, London, Paris, Berlin, Dublin, Rome, Florence, Bucharest, Toronto, Glasgow, and more).

Stragalinos has worked as a director for television and production companies, directing documentaries, music videos, and commercials.

He has served on juries at film festivals, led seminars within the Cinematographic Section of P.O.F.P.A., and worked as a film critic for online media.
