SOROGA ELIZA
(1988) PERFORMANCE ARTIST & DIRECTOREliza Soroga (b. 1988) is an award-winning performance artist and director. Working through the site-specific approach, her practice explores representations of the “uncanny” and the transformation of everyday life into performative. She holds postgraduate degrees in Cultural Studies (University of Athens) and Performance Making (Goldsmiths, University of London). She received the First Prize in Contemporary Art at the 11th international Arte Laguna Prize (Arsenale, Venice). She was awarded a fellowship by ARTWORKS through the Stavros Niarchos Foundation’s 3rd Artist Support Program (2020–2021) and received the Special Contemporary Art Prize from the Taiwan Art Alliance (TASA, 2024).
Her work has been supported by the Ministry of Culture and Sports (2024), the Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design & Space (2023), the Athens & Epidaurus Festival (2018), ERT & ERTFLIX (2023), Torino Fringe Festival (2022), ZAO EXPO’22 | Togatta Residence 044 | Zao Town, Japan (2022), the Municipality of Athens (2018), Arts Council England (2013–2017), among others. She has presented her work at institutions and festivals including the V&A Museum (London), the Royal Scottish Academy of Art and Architecture (Edinburgh), 3331 Arts Chiyoda (Tokyo), Battersea Arts Centre (London), the National Museum of Contemporary Art (EMST, Athens), EYE Film Institute (Netherlands), MOMus – Museum of Contemporary Art (Thessaloniki), the Municipal Gallery of Athens (OPANDA), and the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival (France), among others. She is co-founder of the Performance Architecture School and a visiting lecturer at Central Saint Martins (University of the Arts London), the University of East London, and the MA program Art & Design for the Public Space at the University of Porto.
